Investing in LEGO Set for Profit: 2015 LEGO Ferris Wheel

Many people become surprised when they hear how Lego sets can turn big profits, similar to stock markets. Well… Maybe not as much as stocks but if selected wisely, Lego sets can turn hefty profits for sure! That’s why I have been spending time in identifying these Lego sets that could turn big returns by analyzing their current value and comparing to their retail. Also, I look at similar Lego sets from the past that have already retired and checking their return on investment. Because I have been actively researching on Lego sets, I believe I have been slowly building up a sixth sense on identifying Lego sets best suited for investing. One of the biggest benefits of starting to invest in Lego sets is that they do not tend to decrease value over time as long as Lego.com does not mass-produce. This brings up another aspect of my research, which is identifying Lego sets that is not mass-produced by LEGO.com.

Revisit Past Lego Set

Today, I want to share a Lego set from the past that resulted in a high return on investment so that you can get an idea. Back on July 1, 2009, more than 11 years ago, LEGO.com released an interesting Lego set called Grand Carousel (10196) and came with 3227 pieces, 9 minifigures, and 2 booklets. This set was intended for age 16+ and was initially sold for $249.99.

Today, this same set new in box with factory sealed is selling for $2000 to $3000! The boxes with perfect condition can fetch upwards of $4000. This means your $250 initial investment back in 2009 would have turned into approximately 1000% profit in 11 years. You can see how difficult it is to find a stock that can turn similar profit in that same period. Will the price of this Grand Carousel Lego set continue to rise over time? Absolutely because LEGO.com does not make these anymore and the number of new sets are diminishing over time. Therefore, if you have the guts to pay $2000 for a Lego set today, this can turn into a great investment for next ten years.

So you ask yourself, what is a good Lego set to invest that have not been retired yet and can buy one at a retail price or even less in today’s market? There are many great ones out there. I have been buying them one at a time but I find more every week as I do the research. I will share one Lego set to consider for buying and holding for many years as an investment. A very important piece of advice to you is that make sure the set you buy has a box that is as perfect of condition as possible, free from dents, creases, any damages especially the 4 corners and edges.

Purchase Lego Now Before Too Late

I want to recommend a Lego set called 10247 Creator Expert Ferris Wheel!

This Lego set is also appropriate for age 16+ and comes with 2464 pieces and was first released back in May 15, 2015. It is already more than 3 years old. Besides being beautifully designed by LEGO.com, this is a sizable Ferris Wheel over 23” high, 21” wide, and 14” deep. You will see how big the Lego box is when you receive this set. You will be very tempted to open the box and build it immediately, but you need to suppress your temptation since you bought it as an investment, not as a toy.

Currently, this set retails for $199.99 at LEGO.com. I would say you can only buy it from LEGO.com at retail as the price already started to rise on EBAY and AMAZON. In fact, on November 11, 2018, just last month, this set was sold for $499.99 on EBAY, although you can buy one from EBAY for much less but probably need to pay at least $250. Similarly, on AMAZON, the Creator Expert Ferris Wheel is being sold between $287 and $499. Despite these high prices compared to its retail, you can get one from LEGO.com for only $199.99 + tax. Oh wait! If you buy this set by December 10, 2018, you will receive a free promotional Lego set, exclusive Holiday Carousel, which retails for $15, but is being sold on EBAY and AMAZON for up to $48.

Additional Discounts

If you sign up as a LEGO VIP member (I highly recommend), you can receive 199 VIP points, which is equivalent to $10 on future orders. In addition to VIP points, if you use EBATE.com you can get additional 2.5% of $199 ($5) plus if you are a new member, you receive free $10 just from
signing up.

When you receive this Creator Expert Ferris Wheel set from LEGO.com, inspect the Lego box very carefully and identify any damages from shipment. I have noticed that LEGO.com does not do so well in protecting the Lego set during shipment. If you find damages and are not okay with them, then you call LEGO.com customer support (1-800-835-4386) for an exchange. However, if there are any slight damages that you can live with keeping the set, then you still call LEGO.com customer support, explain the damages, and request some VIP points instead of having them send another set as an exchange. Make sure you take pictures as proofs as they may want you to send the pictures to them.

Final Thought

Investing in Lego sets is real and can bring you much wealth as a long-term investment. Many investment savvy people have already started investing their money into Lego sets and I presume the Lego market will only continue to grow over time, which means potential for already retired Lego sets should be accelerate and should bring even more profits. I believe Lego 10247 Creator Expert Ferris Wheel will turn into a great investment for the future and everyone should jump on it when there is still some time left before this set retires probably in the next several months.
